FAQS – Participants:
When does the hackathon take place?
The hackathon will take place this weekend from 3rd – 5th April. You have 48 hours to build a solution together that will help us in this crisis. We start with a kick-off seminar on Friday at 4pm. and end the hackathon on Sunday at 8:00 p.m, when you will send your final submission.
Do we get support during the hackathon?
Our mentors are at your side throughout the hackathon. They are professionals who will support you with their feedback and knowledge in several check-ins over the 48 hours.
How does a virtual hackathon work?
Our hackathon takes place exclusively online. We provide the appropriate tools so that you can jointly develop solutions online. We use Slack as a communication platform for the teams and video conferencing for live webinars, Q&A sessions and daily check-ins.
How many can participate?
There is no limit to the number of participants. Simply register here by midnight on Thursday. Happy hacking!
Are there prerequisites for participation?
We are looking for programmers, designers, creative people, problem solvers: and socially committed citizens. There are no requirements to participate in the #HacKHtheCrisis Online Hackathon. Use your interdisciplinarity and be creative together to develop solutions that help us in the crisis.
Do I have to be able to code to participate?
No, everyone who is motivated, has time and internet access can participate!
I have not received a welcome email!
We will send the welcome emails on Friday from 10-2 p.m. There you will find further information about the hackathon.
Do I need preinstalled software?
You don’t need preinstalled software per se. An e-mail address is sufficient to participate. You need this for registration and for Slack.
What can be submitted as a result?
The solutions developed can be both digital and physical. We are looking for anything that helps us to face the crisis. See some sample existing ideas/solutions here. Don’t reinvent the wheel, adapt them to Cambodia.
Do I have to speak English /Khmer to participate?
All our official materials will be translated in both languages. You can submit your solution either in Khmer or in English.
Can I register as a team?
No, but you can coordinate with friends to form a team. Simply register separately and then find yourself on a challenge.
What happens to the results afterwards?
The aim is that the results are used after the hackathon and help people. To ensure that your prototypes become viable solutions after the hackathon, we are currently setting up a digital support program, and sourcing partners and fundings that can help us support the best ideas afterwards. What do I get for participating?
You’ll be helping others. You’ll be potentially building solutions that can save lives, or save businesses. You’ll have fun along the way! You can also see what are the support available to the committed and the best teams on the “Post-hackathon” support page.
Can I submit a business that it’s already working?
If you already have a business or project, that’s working, that’s great! You can submit directly your solutions to our final submission form to be featured on our catalogue, that will be shared with our Support Partners after the Hacakthon.

Mentors – FAQ:
Which areas can I support?
We are looking for mentors from all areas, including health, IT (software and hardware), communication, project management, business, security, design, soft skills, fundraising, data, etc…
Register as a mentor here and share your knowledge and experience with the teams to develop strong solutions against Covid-19.
How much time will it take me?
The kick off will be from Friday evening on matching (from 8pm to 10:30pm) and then there is a morning and evening check-in on Saturday and Sunday. You can find more detailed information in the schedule on the homepage.
How many teams can I support?
Depending on your expertise and availability, you will support one or more teams. You can find out exactly which teams you support on Friday from around 10 p.m, once the teams have selected their mentors in the spreadsheet.
